With a mother’s day right around the corner, I figured that a mother’s day DIY beauty box might just be the thing to try right now! There are 5 fragrant and gorgeous DIY recipes that your mom (or a fellow mom) will definitely adore!

your personalized homemade beauty box will make a perfect gift. To add an extra kick, decorate it with some paper and flowers, perhaps even a card! After all, all moms deserve some me-time, when they can relax and unwind. And that’s exactly what this mother’s day DIY box is here for!
Okay, enough of that. Let’s get to the recipes!
You can replace the essential oils if you wish, these are all my preferences. You know best what the mum this box is for prefers! In any case, I’m sure these will be a great hit!
Mother’s day DIY beauty box
Smooth body scrub with dried roses
This body scrub is simply beautiful; very easy to make but a great addition to your mother’s day DIY beauty box. The mango butter in a combination with babassu oil leaves the skin soft, smooth, and nourished. With a few additional drops of an essential oil, it makes a wonderful gift.
The procedure to make this smooth lovely scrub is very similar to that of whipped body butter. You’ll need somewhere to 30 minutes for this scrub since some of the ingredients have to be cooled before you continue with the recipe. Let’s get to it!
- 1 TBSP babassu oil (find babassu oil here)
- 2,5 TBSP mango butter (find mango butter here)
- 1 TSP vegetable glycerin (find vegetable glycerin here) *optional
- 1 TBSP dried rose petals (find dried rose petals here)
- 6 TBSP finely ground Himalayan salt (find Himalayan salt here)
- Mason jar (or any kind of jar you have at home that is pretty enough!)
- In a double boiler, melt mango butter
- Once it’s melted, remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes
- Add the babassu oil
- Put the bowl with the mixture into a freezer (or a fridge), for 10-20 minutes. You’ll know the mixture is ready when the top layer of the mixture hardened (see here for more details)
- Whip the oils until you get the desired fluffiness.
- Add vegetable glycerin and the salt
- Whip the mixture again; it should look like a foamy creamy butter
- Add the crushed dried rose petals and an essential oil to your liking
- This scrub should last a few months
You can add a few drops of an essential oil if you’d like (rose essential oil, lavender, or anything to the taste).
Soothing Bath Salts
Honestly, who doesn’t love a nice hot fragrant bath with a good book and a glass of wine? I do very much, but unfortunately, I don’t have a bath. That doesn’t stop me from being creative, though!
This recipe is very easy; it will take you 10 minutes at most to make it, and it makes a thoughtful addition to the IDY beauty box. It’s both relaxing and very beneficial for the skin at the same time.
- Dried chamomile flowers (find organic chamomile here)
- Dried lavender flowers (find lavender flowers here)
- Dried hibiscus petals (find organic hibiscus flowers here)
- 2 cup Epsom salts (find natural Epsom salt here)
- 1/2 cup Himalayan pink salts (find Himalayan pink salt here)
- 2 TBSP jojoba oil (find jojoba oil here)
- 30 drops essential oils of your choice (lavender, geranium, ylang-ylang, mandarin, chamomile…)
- Mason jar (or any kind of clean jar you have at home)
- Clean and dry the mason jar properly
- Add the salts and the essential oils into the jar
- Shake and stir well
- Top the jar with dry flowers; you can stir the mixture if you wish, or leave it layered; whatever you think looks better
Nourishing Calendula Hand Salve
My mom is obsessed with her calendula salve. She carries it with her everywhere she goes. Consequently, I became a huge fan as well. This salve is very beneficial and nourishing. Use it for dry hands and irritated skin, it is healing and soothing.
For this recipe, you’ll need calendula infused oil. Have a look at calendula benefits and how to make the oil in this older post. Otherwise, you can buy pre-made calendula oil (link in the recipe).
You’ll need about 30 minutes max to make this recipe.
- 5 TBSP calendula infused oil (find calendula infused oil here)
- 1 TBSP candelilla wax (find candelilla wax here)
- 1 TBSP shea butter (find unrefined shea butter here)
- 8 drops lemon essential oil (find lemon EO here)
- Clean dry container (a tin or amber glass jar)
- In a double boiler, melt the candelilla wax
- Stir it occasionally, until it has melted completely
- Add shea butter to the same bowl and stir until shea has melted
- Remove the bowl from the heat
- Once it’s cooled down, add the calendula oil
- Stir well and add the essential oil
- Pour the mixture into the container
- Let it sit for a few hours or overnight for the salve to cool and solidify completely
You can substitute lemon essential oil with a different one, such as chamomile or lavender.
Refreshing Body Mist
This is a refreshing, calming, and uplifting body mist that can be used in the morning after the shower, during the day when you need a bit of an energy boost, or in the evening. It’s a lovely summer fragrance and a great touch to your mother’s day DIY beauty box.
Whenever I use this in the slightly cooler months (spring and autumn), I like to add a tablespoon of an oil of my choice in there, such as argan or jojoba. That way I get an additional moisturizing kick for my skin!
This recipe will take you 10 minutes to make.
- 10 drops grapefruit essential oil (find grapefruit essential oil here)
- 5 drops jasmine essential oil (find jasmine essential oil here)
- 5 drops lavender essential oil (find lavender essential oil here)
- 4 TBSP rosewater (find rosewater here)
- 3 TBSP distilled water
- A spray bottle (4 oz./120 ml)
- Measure and our rosewater and distilled water in a bottle
- Add the essential oils
- Shake well!
You can change the ratio of the essential oils, also lower the quantity.
Store the mist in the fridge if you live in a hot area. Otherwise, a cool bathroom will be just fine.

Fragrant facial mask for dry skin
Pink clay, rosewater, fragrant essential oil, this mask is a gorgeous mother’s day DIY! It is appropriate for mature skin; I’ve included both rosehip oil and French pink clay specifically for that reason. They nourish and soften the skin; the French clay also boosts the circulation and gives the mask an exfoliating touch.
The mask will take you 10-15 minutes to make. The clay should not come into contact with iron. Use a wooden or a plastic spoon when dealing with clay. Also, mix the mask in a glass or plastic bowl.
- 3 TSP white kaolin clay (find kaolin clay here)
- 5 TSP pink French clay (find pink clay here)
- 8 TSP rosewater (find organic rosewater here)
- 1 TSP rosehip oil (find organic rosehip oil here)
- 2-3 drops neroli essential oil (find neroli essential oil here)
- Mason jar (or a clean jar you have at home)
- Wooden or plastic spoon and bowl
- Add the clay into a bowl
- Pour in rosewater and mix thoroughly
- Stir in rosehip and the essential oil
- Mix thoroughly again
- Your mom (or a fellow mom) should store this mask in the fridge
- Whenever she uses it, she should apply it on a clean face. She can leave the mask on for 15 and then she should rinse it with lukewarm water
The essential oil is optional.
In case you are making this mask for someone younger, you can substitute the rosehip oil with either avocado or jojoba oil. You can leave the rest of the ingredients as they are.
